What is The Charge of the Goddess?

Listen to the words of the Great Mother;
she who of old was called among men  Artemis,
 Astarte, Athena, Demeter, Diana, Durgha, Isis, Laksmi, Kali,  Aphrodite, Cerridwen,  Brede, and by many other names:

triplegoddessWhenever you have need of any thing, once in the month, and better it be when the moon is full, then shall you assemble in some secret place and adore the spirit of me, who am Queen of all witches. There shall you assemble, you who are fain to learn all sorcery, yet have not won its deepest secrets; to these will I teach things that are yet unknown. And you shall be free from slavery; and as a sign that you be really free, you shall be naked in your rites; and you shall dance, sing, feast, make music and love, all in my praise. For mine is the ecstasy of the spirit; and mine also is joy on earth; for my law is love unto all beings. Keep pure your highest ideal; strive ever towards it; let naught stop you or turn you aside. For mine is the secret door which opens upon the Land of Youth and mine is the cup of the wine of life, and the Cauldron of Cerridwen, which is the Holy Grail of immortality. I am the gracious Goddess, who gives the gift of joy unto the heart of man. Upon earth, I give the knowledge of the spirit eternal; and beyond death, I give peace and freedom, and reunion with those who have gone before. Nor do I demand sacrifice, for behold, I am the Mother of all living, and my love is poured out upon the earth.

Hear you the words of the Star Goddess;
she in the dust of whose feet are the hosts of heaven,
and whose body encircles the universe:

I who am the beauty of the green earth, and the white Moon among the stars, and the mystery of the waters, and the desire of the heart of man, call unto your soul: Arise, and come unto me. For I am the soul of nature, who gives life to the universe. From me all things proceed, and unto me all things must return; and before my face, beloved of  Gods and of men, let your innermost divine self be enfolded in the rapture of the infinite. Let my worship be within the heart that rejoices; for behold, all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals. And therefore let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion, honour and humility, mirth and reverence within you. And you who thinks to see for me, know your seeking and yearning will not avail you unless you know the mystery; that if that which you seek you find not within you, then you will find it without you. For behold, I have been with you from the beginning; and I am that which is attained at the end of desire.

The Goddess of Aquarius
(Sent to me by a friend)

Aah! The light! The days lengthen and you may catch the scent of spring in the southern breeze. At night, the skies are crystal clear – and you may see me there, as Aquarius, the Celestial Waterer.

I am Nut of Egypt; I am the sky herself. On my headdress I wear the Sacred Watering Jar, source of the waters of mercy and of wisdom. This vessel is my sheltering womb and my nurturing breast, a cousin to the Grail and to the Cauldron. I am the vital power that renews and fertilizes all things, as the flooded Nile each year causes gardens to bloom in the desert. Even as the sun rises between my legs each morning, so do I pour forth my gift of universal love to all humans.

You who are called by my name or who walk under my sign, these are the challenges and gifts of the Goddess of Aquarius:
I call you to spread the gospel of universal peace among sisters and brothers of all lands.

I challenge you to resist the conventions your culture would have you adhere to; you be the one in every crowd to Question Authority. You will value truth above all else, no matter what the personal cost.

You must overcome your alienation from society and bond with your own tribe.

I give you the gift of self-respect, vision, clarity, sociability and revolutionary, electrifying ideas. (Don’t have any sense of the latter!)

Come, be refreshed in my waters, and help me give birth to the new dawn.
